Senior/Lead Environmental Inspector

General Job Description:

As the Lead Inspector/Monitor your role will include, but is not limited to, supervising erosion and sedimentation control inspections, surface and/or groundwater level sampling, surface and/or groundwater quality sampling, domestic well sampling and other such related project works. You will be required to provide direction to intermediate and junior staff and perform project management activities, such as proposal and budget preparation, client and agency liaison, budget tracking, letter report review and submission, etc. You will be responsible for keeping up-to-date knowledge on the regulations and acts that apply to the work you are performing. You will be required to work with the other seniors and project managers within the fisheries/aquatic, ecological and hydrogeological departments within the organization.

You will be responsible for overseeing ongoing projects as they relate to erosion and sedimentation control monitoring. You will be responsible for ensuring that GEMS is providing high quality service on project sites to our clientele, reviewing reporting and providing assistance to technical staff on-site and in the office. You will be responsible to ensure technicians are working efficiently, effectively and safely and identify deficiencies and provide recommendations and probable solutions. You will be required to liaise with clients, contractors and governing agencies as a representative of the organization, and as such are required to stay informed on available and upcoming ESC products and techniques.

It must be noted that it is a requirement of the position to have or be eligible to immediately attain the Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) certification.

Qualification and Experience Requirements:

  • CISEC Certification or immediately eligible to attain
  • Minimum of a College Diploma in environmental geography, earth science, environmental science, fish and wildlife or related.
  • Minimum 3 years experience conducting ESC inspections
  • Experience working on MTO projects conducting environmental inspections
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and vehicle for regular travel to jobsites
  • Knowledge of Government regulations is an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with product suppliers, consultants, agencies, etc.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), client relationship building and presentation skills
  • Good organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Canadian experience an asset
